WE THINK SUSTAINABLE

We inspire & empower the Munich Electrification team, customers, suppliers and other stakeholders.

We are devoted to propel sustainability in the electronic and automotive market.

CREATING A SUSTAINABILITY CONSCIOUS FOUNDATION

ME's governance is anchored in sustainability-conscious structures, intentions, and decisions. Despite the postponement of the EU regulation on non-financial reporting - the “Omnibus proposal” -, we continue to report voluntarily across a spectrum of ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) topics taking the disclosures and data points included in the ESRS and VSME as our major guidance.

Another pivotal initiative is our materiality assessment, a fundamental concept in the sustainability landscape. It determines which topics to disclose and where to concentrate our efforts in the company's strategic course. In 2024, we defined a sustainability strategy with goals and measures within four fields of action (see below).

Decarbonization is definitely a central topic in sustainability. Tackling climate change requires ambitious action from the corporate sector. We have set near-term science-based targets to prove our commitment to building a sustainable economy.

Within our offices, ME actively pursues socially- and environmentally-friendly practices, particularly in areas such as business travel, catering, and corporate benefits for employees.

We are certified with the ISO Standard 14001 and target to extend our partner network with more sustainable leaders.

MINIMIZING THE PRODUCTS' FOOTPRINT

In addition to tracking the Corporate Carbon Footprint, we commenced calculating the carbon footprint of our products in 2021. Through cradle-to-gate Product Carbon Footprints (see example on the right) or also comprehensive life cycle assessments, we identify significant contributors and prioritize improvements accordingly.

The levers for minimizing the carbon footprint lie not only in product design but also in the selection of materials, components, and suppliers.  To this end, we strive to integrate relevant ecodesign principles into our product development.

ENGAGEMENT FOR A MORE RESPONSIBLE SUPPLY CHAIN

At ME, we take our social and environmental responsibilities throughout our value chain seriously. Maximizing transparency in the upstream supply chain is crucial for identifying significant issues and initiating action on those with the highest impact through the implementation of appropriate countermeasures.

Our suppliers undergo assessment and selection based on sustainability criteria, among other considerations. Additionally, we are planning to foster close collaboration on sustainability matters, beginning with our major suppliers.

Since we support the vision of a world where the mining industry respects the human rights and aspirations of affected communities, provides safe, healthy and supportive workplaces, minimizes harm to the environment, and leaves positive legacies, we joined the Initiative for responsible Mining Assurance, IRMA.

GRIEVANCE MECHANISM AT MUNICH ELECTRIFICATION

At Munich Electrification, we are committed to transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement. We understand the importance of providing our stakeholders with a platform to voice their concerns and feedback to potential human rights violations and harms towards the environment. That is why we are pleased to introduce our Grievance Mechanism — designed to ensure that all stakeholders, including customers, employees, suppliers, and community members, have a straightforward and confidential way to share their concerns.
