DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
PRECISION WITHOUT COMPLEXITY
The CMB is a streamlined hardware component with no embedded software. It measures cell voltages and temperatures with high accuracy, performs balancing, and communicates via isolated daisy-chain: all with minimal complexity and zero cybersecurity exposure on the board itself.
The daisy-chain architecture is a key design advantage. An efficient driver implementation supports over 500 cells plus additional analog front-ends, such as current measurement, on a single chain. This eliminates separate communication buses and keeps wiring simple even in the largest systems.
All intelligence lives in the BMS controller. The CMB does one thing well: precise, reliable, safety-rated cell monitoring at the module level.

ASIL D SAFETY MONITORING
Individual cell voltage (±2.1 mV) and temperature monitoring at the highest automotive safety integrity level. Fault tolerance time interval below 120 ms, the system detects and responds to safety-critical conditions within this window.
ANY CHEMISTRY, ANY SIZE
15+ variants from 6 to 108 cells. NMC, LFP, NCA, LMFP, solid-state, software-configurable. No hardware change needed for a chemistry switch.
PASSIVE BALANCING STANDARD
125–200+ mA balancing current on every CMB variant. Multiple NTC temperature sensors per board for comprehensive thermal monitoring across the entire module.

EIS: CELL-LEVEL DIAGNOSTICS
On-board electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measures cell impedance across frequencies (0.1 Hz – 5 kHz). Enables SoH estimation, lithium plating detection, internal short circuit early warning, and degradation attribution. Supports EU Digital Battery Passport compliance.
ACTIVE BALANCING
Module-to-module energy transfer at 2–3 A — 10 to 20 times faster than passive balancing. ~95% efficiency means energy is transferred, not wasted. Increases usable pack capacity by 2–4% and accelerates commissioning of large systems.

Eliminates all communication harnesses within the battery pack. Radio-based data link to wireless gateway with patented low-power wakeup. Major simplification for stationary and modular deployments — reduces assembly time and potential failure points.

ONE PLATFORM, EVERY VARIANT
The SBS Core is part of Munich Electrification's 3rd-generation Barcelona BMS platform, sharing a common hardware architecture and software stack with SBS High, SBS Multistring, and SBS Stationary.
All four Barcelona variants run the identical SBS Software Platform. One software image supports every variant, switchable at runtime via the Configuration Framework. This means SBS Core benefits from the same validated, ASIL D ready codebase with 14-day release cadence.
The platform is compatible with ME's CMBXX cell monitoring board family, supporting 6 to 64+ cells per board. SBS Core offers 1–2 isoSPI channels in bus or ring topology, enabling diverse cell monitoring architectures.
